Hybrid Power

Town Island lies off the coast of Hong Kong and is home to a rehabilitation centre. This remote island is not connected to the grid and has been powered by diesel generators with fuel transported by sea.

To allow for redevelopment, the centre applied to CLP for a permanent electricity supply. For ecological reasons it was decided that the best
solution was a renewable power system.

3Tech designed and built a hybrid system comprising 180kW of solar PV panels and two 6kW wind turbines backed up by a diesel genset and maintenance-free batteries. The system includes data management and remote monitoring and is
the biggest hybrid power system in Hong Kong. It is calculated to save up to 262 tons of CO2 emissions annually.
